Sacramento Lodge #40 Commemorative Coin

Last year, Brother Matt Kuhlman spearheaded a committee to design a commemorative coin for our lodge. The committee, who consisted of Brothers Kuhlman, Michael Guiliano, Richard Schafer, and B.J. Ellis, gathered ideas and presented several coin designs before a final design decision was made. The final product is a beautiful coin with symbolism that all brothers will appreciate. 100 initial coins were ordered and 99 were sold at our January stated meeting. With coin #40 to be auctioned off at our crab feed on February 12th. The coin committee is looking into making a second order, seeing that the demand for this beautiful coin, is still very high.

Brother Kuhlman had this to say about the coin. "The symbols contained therein represent the universal code which we have freely chosen to subscribe." Below is Brother Kuhlmans breakdown of the symbolism on the coin.

OBVERSE

Dimpled interior: Rough Ashler
Smooth Rim: Perfect Ashler
Braided Edge: The cabletow which binds us all
The six interior cuts on the compass: Pays reference to the movable and immovable jewels
The Square: One of the principle working tools of our profession

REVERSE

Blue Rim: Our lodge
Brotherly love, Truth, Relief: Our tenants
Trowel: Our aspiration, it be well worn with constant use

The Last symbol : makes for 16, when (1 + 6) added together represent the number of days the Architect took to create the Universe, and justly so, is located in the center of the circular coin paying homage also to the noblest of sciences

It was hoped that the tradition will continue in the years to come, with a new Reverse designed by a future comittee highlighting a feature unique to our lodge. - Brother Matt Kuhlman
